Williamson Shield

This is the Club Championship. It is played in four rounds throughout the season. The competition is made up of skip-selected teams, the players on each team being chosen without regard to Club rating. Teams are prioritized on the basis of their skips’ previous year’s record. Newly formed teams may be added at the bottom of the ranking.

Teams are divided into three sections – A, B and C. Teams play a round robin within their section. After the first round, which takes place in October/November, the top teams in B and C advance one section. The bottom teams of A and B drop one section. This process is repeated after each round: Round 2 is in December/January; Round 3 is in February; Round 4 is in March. Playoffs in all sections take place on Tuesdays in April. The two top-ranked teams in Section A after the fourth round play a two-out-of-three-games match for the Williamson Shield. The top two teams in the other sections play a single game to determine section winners and advancement in the next year.
